History
Oztir
For All Of Time
The origins of Oztir begin far from the traditional capitals of watchmaking, in a small town in Wisconsin along the shores of Lake Michigan, where the quiet rhythm of the water and the passing of seasons first shaped an appreciation for time itself.
Life later carried that journey through Tennessee, Chicago, and Virginia, but the fascination with time—how it is measured, engineered, and preserved—remained constant.
The earliest memories of watchmaking began not in a workshop, but in local thrift stores. At eleven years old, old watches became objects of curiosity and discovery, carefully opened and studied piece by piece. At the time, the movements were mysteries that could rarely be reassembled, yet those early explorations sparked a lasting fascination with the extraordinary mechanics hidden within even the smallest timepiece.
Years later, after college, that fascination evolved into a singular pursuit: mastering the art of watchmaking at the highest level.
The ambition is not merely to repair watches, but to one day stand among the very small number of individuals in the United States capable of designing and hand-building a mechanical watch movement entirely by hand.
Achieving this level of mastery requires patience, discipline, and a reverence for centuries of horological tradition.
Equally central to the vision is the belief that America can once again become a respected center of traditional watchmaking. Historically, the United States played a significant role in the evolution of precision timekeeping, yet today, true hand-crafted horology is largely concentrated abroad.
The long-term mission is to help restore that tradition—to bring high-end, hand-built mechanical watches back to American soil and contribute to a renewed era of luxury craftsmanship.
Such mastery cannot be rushed. The journey of becoming capable of building a mechanical movement entirely by hand requires decades of practice, the acquisition of specialized equipment, and the refinement of skills that only time can develop.
Realistically, it will take ten to twenty years of dedication before the knowledge, precision, and tooling required for full in-house watchmaking can be achieved.
The first chapter of this journey is known as the Frankenstein Collection. These pieces are not yet entirely new creations, but carefully restored and rehabilitated timepieces—vintage watches brought back to life through patient repair, refinement, and mechanical understanding.
Each watch serves as both a restoration and a lesson, deepening the experience required for the greater ambitions ahead. Every timepiece purchased from this early collection directly supports the pursuit of mastery: funding the specialized tools, the equipment, and the countless hours of study necessary to advance toward true handcrafted horology.
Oztir stands at the beginning of a long road—one defined by patience, precision, and an unwavering commitment to excellence.
The watches of today represent the foundation. The watches of the future will represent the culmination of a lifetime dedicated to the art of time itself, with one desire to build watches for all of time.
